Myths Shattered! Truth Revealed!
Andropause
In relation to getting older there are certain things that we tend to expect. There may be some hair loss and such, along with some loss
of sexual activity.
This is generally caused from a decrease in energy as we get older.
However, one of the things that was once considered a female issue, known as menopause, is now at the fore front of the male mind as well. This condition is commonly referred to as Andropause, or male menopause.
Now this may not be a term that you are familiar with and there is good reason. For many years, dating back to the nineteen forties actually, the medical community has been fighting over whether or not this condition exists.
There are camps that support both sides of the issue and they are locked into a debate that never seems to get anywhere. For those who reach the median age there is very little debate to be had. They know that andropause dose exist and it is a very real and somewhat scary situation to be in.
One of the most common factors in the human body is the fact that we begin to slow the production of certain biological chemicals as we age.
This is true in both men and women. When women are of the child bearing years they are actively producing estrogen, which is the female hormone. Its levels will rise and fall over the years, and be significantly increased while the woman is pregnant.
Now then, the male side is very similar. During the most active years of reproduction and sexual activity a male will produce testosterone which is the male hormone. This hormone is directly related to sexual activity and our libido.

When the levels begin to fall over time our sex drive will also begin to suffer. Then one must consider the fact that this hormone is also responsible for many other functions, including the amount of physical and mental energy we have.
While the verdict is still out in the scientific community, the general feeling is that andropause is caused by the falling levels of testosterone in the male body. This is identical to the cause of the female menopause which is the fall of the estrogen that the woman produces over time.
That is why menopausal women are treated with a hormone replacement therapy to slow the signs of menopause and increase the quality of life.
However, there is nothing in the books that says andropause should be treated in the same way.
In many cases, testosterone is only administered to young teens to trigger the onset of puberty in those that are slow to mature to the proper levels. Many doctors believe that testosterone therapy can be dangerous in older men, much like increased hormone therapy in women can be dangerous as well.
Some of the more common symptoms, though this has not been proven, is the lack of sexual interest in andropausal men. This is coupled with trouble maintaining an erection and even impotence in many cases.
While the doctors of the world may not treat this condition there are several natural remedies that have shown promise and should be considered.
